The Department of Business Development and Technology (BTECH) at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for assistant and associate professorship positions in operations and engineering management.
An assistant professorship is a full-time three-year position. An associate professorship is a full-time permanent position. The starting date is 1 January 2024 or as agreed upon.
Both assistant and associate professors divide their time evenly between research and teaching activities, and the successful candidates will become part of the EngTech research section.

Job description
At BTECH, we have a strong focus on company collaboration, which is reflected in our research and study programmes. As a researcher, we expect that you advance the research frontier through applied research. If you also have the competences to contribute to our students’ educational development and knowledge building in companies, you may be just the person we are looking for.
We are searching for strong candidates who can tap into an overarching focus on physical production, including production networks, the relationship between product development and production, engineering processes, and understanding of engineering practices, roles and relationships – always with an eye towards technology and/or operations.
Candidates are expected to teach and supervise students at bachelor’s and master’s level. Associate professors are also expected to supervise PhD students. Our study programmes include an MSc in Engineering (Technology Based Business Development) as well as Bachelor of Engineering programmes in Forretningsudvikling (Business Development) and Global Management and Manufacturing (supply chain/production). Hence, candidates should be able to teach courses in one or more of the following domains: operations management, supply chain management, management of technology, and technology-based business development.
Your qualifications
Employment as an assistant professor requires a PhD degree in a relevant field.
Employment as an associate professor requires a PhD degree and a strong academic background as assistant professor or equivalent. Furthermore, the ideal candidate for the associate professorships holds the following qualifications:
- A proven record of strong international research, as evidenced by publications in highly reputed international journals.
- A track record of excellence in teaching on topics relevant for our study programmes.
- A clear, well-developed and viable strategy for future high-level research.
- A track record of good citizenship in the wider academic community combined with a commitment to contributing to a vibrant work environment at our department.
- A commitment to sharing insights and knowledge with the broader society and prioritising dialogue with practitioners.
- A commitment to teaching that provides the students with relevant competences as well as the ability to reflect critically on business topics.
- A willingness to engage in external research funding activities.
Non-Danish speakers are required to acquire a reasonable knowledge of the Danish language within three years. The department will grant time off from teaching to attend Danish courses during the first two years of employment.
Permanent employment as an associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires the completion of
the Faculty supervision course and also the course “Online and blended learning” provided by Centre for Educational Development. If you have not completed this course before commencement of employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the course within a two-year period.

BTECH is part of Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University – a top 100 university. BTECH is located in the business-oriented and entrepreneurial city of Herning. The department excels in business, IT and engineering disciplines and emphasises the importance of company collaborations. We have around 1,200 students and close to 100 faculty and staff. Each year, approximately 500 students are involved in company projects in more than 250 companies ranging from SMEs to leading multinationals. Our incubator Business Factory launches 10 new companies each year.
We influence society through business development and technology. For this reason, many research projects are conducted in close collaboration with industry on the basis of new data and new technologies. These projects are generously supported by the ERC, Horizon Europe, the Independent Research Fund Denmark and the Danish Industry Foundation, among others.

The appointment is made in accordance with the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Danish Universities as well as the circular on the Collective Agreement for Academics Employed by the State (in Danish).
